Heavenly Father, We bow our heads and hearts today to acknowledge You as the Architect who spoke into existence all that is. We are in awe when we look around and see that You didn’t just create a world; You crafted a home specifically designed for us to thrive in.
Every detail—from the way the seasons turn to provide our harvest, to the very air we breathe—shows us that nothing was left to chance. It was all planned by You. Even though we live in a fallen world, often marred by sin and the shadow of death, Your glory is not hidden. The beauty of Your handiwork is still obvious for those who have eyes to see it.
We are reminded of the words in Psalm 8:
"When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?" (Psalm 8:3-4 KJV)
Lord, we are humbled that You, the Creator of the universe, are mindful of us.
And Father, our gratitude runs deepest when we think of how You created us because of Your overflowing love and even though we rejected You repeatedly, You never gave up on us.
Instead of leaving us destined for a horrible end that we rightfully deserved, You sent Your Son to be the perfect sacrifice. Through Him, You have gifted us a righteousness that we could never earn on our own.
You did this to give us the opportunity to reconcile us to Yourself, tearing the boundary of the veil, restoring us to an intimate, loving relationship with You, our Triune God, for all eternity.
Because of this new transformed life born in the resurrection of our Savior and King, we no longer have to face death. We proclaim the victory promised in Your Word:
"O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" (1 Corinthians 15:55 KJV)
To You, our God, belongs all the glory, but also our captive love and our trust. You have earned it in countless ways.
Yet sometimes we place our trust in unreliable and temporary things. We are like the foolish Judeans who trusted in an alliance with Egypt to protect them, even when You had proven over and over that the only strength that ever matters is Your strength.
We confess that in our pride, we think it is up to us to work out problems, and in our pride, we decide how things should be from our limited perspective. Help us to remember what You have said in Isaiah 55:8-9:
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isaiah 55:8-9 KJV)
We ask that You help us to surrender to You—always and in all things—because You always know what is best.
In that spirit of surrender, we bring our pleas before You today.
First, we ask for Your hand of protection over those traveling to be with loved ones. Watch over our friends, our family, and our church family who are on the road. Grant them traveling mercies and bring them safely to their destinations and safely home again.
We also plead for Your Church in this nation. Father, spark a revival in our hearts. We ask that the American church would stop bending to the culture and instead surrender fully to the authority of the Bible. Forgive us where we have misrepresented Jesus to the world; forgive us where we have defamed His holy name by our actions. Teach Your Church the blessing of being selfless and loving. In a world that is growing darker and more confused, help us to stand firm as a light, reflecting the true character of Christ to everyone.
Father, today I end our prayer in a manner close to what Jesus our High Priest taught us, for it is in His Name we come boldly before Your throne:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Thank you for giving us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
And all God’s Children say: Amen!
